John Spillane

Growing up I was fascinated by stories of faraway lands and people and always wanted to travel, photograph the world and experience life in other countries.
Travel and photography for me are interconnected, I have always enjoyed traveling and photographing distant lands and peoples with my camera.
In my opinion, to create successful, compelling photographs it is essential to engage with the local people and culture. It is important to try and find the essence of the place and to capture what it is that makes it so unique and intriguing.
Photography has given me incredibly deeper and astonishingly richer travel experiences through involvement with local people and the surroundings they live in, the photographs shown here are testament to that.
I hope you enjoy viewing the images as much as I have enjoyed making them. If you wish, please feel free to leave a comment in the contact section below.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain
“Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”
Ray Bradbury
“It is part of the photographer’s job to see more intensely than most people do. He must have and keep in him something of the receptiveness of the child who looks at the world for the first time or of the traveller who enters a strange country.”
Bill Brandt
